چکیده

KASCADE-Grande was an air-shower experiment designed to study cosmic rays between 1016 and 1018 eV. The instrument was located at the site of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, Germany at an altitude of 110m a.s.l. and covered an area of 0.5 km. KASCADE-Grande consisted of several detector systems dedicated to measure different components of the EAS generated by the primary cosmic rays, i.e., the muon and the electron contents of the air-shower. With such a number of EAS observables and the precision of the measurements, the KASCADE-Grande data can be used to not only study in detail the properties of cosmic rays but also to test the predictions of hadronic-interaction models. In this work, in particular, the attenuation lengths of the muon number and the charged number of particles of EAS in the atmosphere were extracted from the KASCADE-Grande data and the results were compared with the predictions of the new EPOS-LHC hadronic-interaction model.

Test of hadronic interaction models with the KASCADE-Grande muon data

KASCADE-Grande is an air-shower observatory devoted for the detection of cosmic rays with energies in the interval of 1014 − 1018 eV, where the Grande array is responsible for the higher energy range. The experiment comprises different detection systems which allow precise measurements of the charged, electron and muon numbers of extensive air-showers (EAS). These data is employed not only to r...

30th International Cosmic Ray Conference

KASCADE-Grande is a multi detector setup for the investigation of extensive air showers in the 10 − 10 eV energy range. With the Grande array it is possible to reconstruct the shower core position, the arrival direction and the total number of charged particles in the shower. The Grande array measures in coincidence with the original KASCADE muon array consisting of 622 m shielded scintillators...

eV cosmic rays by studying the ratio muon size to shower size of KASCADE-Grande data

KASCADE-Grande is an air-shower observatory devoted to the study of cosmic rays with energies in the range 10−10 eV. In KASCADE-Grande, different detector systems allow independent measurements of the number of muons (Nμ) and charged particles (Nch) of air showers, which are the basis for several energy and composition studies of cosmic rays. In this contribution, a composition analysis using t...

30TH INTERNATIONAL COSMIC RAY CONFERENCE Features of the S(500) distribution for large air showers detected with the KASCADE-Grande array

For the experimental conditions of the KASCADE-Grande experiment, the density of charged particles of large air showers (EAS) at the distance of about 500 m from the shower core S(500) has been shown by detailed simulation studies to be an approximate energy estimator, being nearly independent of the mass of the primary particle. This report presents some first experimentally observed features ...

30TH INTERNATIONAL COSMIC RAY CONFERENCE Tests of hadronic interaction models with muon pseudorapidities measured with KASCADE-Grande

The Muon Tracking Detector in the KASCADE-Grande experiment allows the measurement of muon directions up to 700 m from the shower center. It means, that nearly all muons produced in a shower and surviving to the ground level are subject of investigation. It is important not only for studying mean muon production heights but also for investigations of EAS muon pseudorapidity distributions. These...
